Preparatory Course for IELTS Examination (Academic Training) Objectives: This course is specifically designed for non-native speakers who want to take the IELTS Exam in the next 6 month to 1 year. This course helps students to enhance their reading, speaking, listening and writing that is essential for the exam. It is suited for Non-native speakers who want it for Academic Purposes. Modules Offered: IELTS English Reading Focus Area Learning Outcomes Reading Comprehension Skills and Strategies Process and comprehend texts at literal and inferential levels. Apply critical reading by focusing on implied meaning, higher-order thinking, judgement and evaluation Reading Different Types of Rich Texts Apply close and critical reading a variety of literary selections and informational/functional texts, from print sources, for learning in the literary/ content areas and to understand how lexical and grammatical items are used in context Writing Focus Area Learning Outcomes Writing Skills and Strategies Generate and select ideas for writing and representing for a variety of purposes, audiences, contexts and cultures Develop, organise and express ideas coherently and cohesively in writing and representing for a variety of purposes, audiences, contexts and cultures Type of Texts Produce a variety of texts for creative, personal, academic, and functional purposes, using an appropriate register and tone Speaking Focus Area Learning Outcomes Features of Spoken Language Demonstrate knowledge of spoken grammar and register Speaking Skills and Strategies Speak with accurate pronunciation and appropriate intonationUse appropriate skills, strategies and language to convey and construct meaning during interactions Types of Spoken Texts Produce spontaneous and planned spoken texts that are grammatically accurate, fluent, coherent and cohesive. Listening Focus Area Learning Outcomes Listening Skills and Strategies Use appropriate skills and strategies to process meaning from textsUse appropriate skills and strategies to evaluate texts Academic Progression: Students who successfully completed the course with the required grading can obtain the minimum language qualification required for entry into various tertiary courses globally. Assessment Methods: Final assessment is based on written examinations set by International English Language Testing System (UK). Internal assessments include Mock Examinations and monthly progressive board game tests. Using textbooks and workbooks 2. Using series of examination practice papers 3. Using lecture notes 4. Listening and Oral Communication Graduation Criteria: Students are deemed graduated when they have completed the course with at least 90% attendance for international students and 80% attendance for local students. Attendance Requirement: All Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a record of 90% and above. Failure to do so may lead to cancellation of student pass. Non-Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a record of 80% and above. Failure to do so may result in suspension or termination of the student. Average Teacher Student Ratio: 1 : 15 Course Duration: Full – time : 6 months (weekly 5 days x 3 hrs) Part – time : 6 months (weekly 3 days x 3 hrs) Awards: Upon graduation, students can be given a Statement of Achievement upon request.
